Dear Parent/Guardian

Welcome back after (what I hope was) a wonderful break and, on behalf of all at Dalziel, I would like to wish you 'A Happy New Year'. Despite the snow and freezing cold, the janitors in the School have done a marvellous job in maintaining all the School's heating and facilities and allowing us to return to a pretty normal set-up. Over the next few weeks the following are the activities and events associated with the School:-

1. Memorial Trust Meeting
   The next meeting of the Memorial Trust will be held, in the School, on Monday 11 January at 7.00 pm.
2. Burns Supper
   Our Annual Burns Supper for pupils in S5/6 will be held, in the School, on Monday 18 January beginning at 6.30 pm. Tickets are now on sale, from the Captains, and are priced at £6.00.
   This is always a hugely enjoyable event and I hope that you will all encourage your son/daughter to come along and join us for what will be, hopefully, their first ever Burns Supper in a long list.

3. S2 Parents' Evening
   The S2 Parents' Evening will be held, in the School, on Wednesday 3 February from 4.30 pm. Letters of appointment will be given out in the next few weeks.
4. Parent Council Meeting
   The next meeting of the Parent Council will be held, in the School, on Thursday 4 February at 7.00 pm.
5. Battle of the Bands
   Following on from the outstanding success of last year's competition, this year's Battle of the Bands will be held, in the School, on Thursday 4 February. Tickets, priced £2.50, will be on sale in a few weeks' time and, based on last year's demand, we anticipate them selling out within minutes! So, buy early to avoid disappointment.
6. February Mid-Term Break and In-Service Days
   This is to give you advance warning that the School will be closed as follows:-

   Friday 12 February - Staff In-Service Day. School closed to pupils.
   Monday 15 February - Holiday
   Tuesday 16 February - Holiday
   Wednesday 17 February - Staff In-Service Day. School closed to pupils.

   Normal timetable will resume for all pupils on Thursday 18 February at 8.55 am.
7. Work, Attitude and Effort
   I would like to remind you that this term (January to Easter) is the most crucial term in terms of pupil preparation for the forthcoming SQA examinations in May.
   It is absolutely vital that pupils work hard, have the correct attitude to their work and make consistent, conscientious efforts at all times. Members of staff will do their utmost to ensure that pupils are well prepared but the ultimate effort must come from the pupils themselves.
   I would urge you to ensure that, over the coming months, your son/daughter does apply himself/herself to their studies. If you wish to discuss any matters of concern please do not hesitate to contact your son/daughter's Pupil Support Teacher or the appropriate Depute Head Teacher.
   As before, if we all work together for the common cause, then we can be sure that your son/daughter will perform to the maximum of their ability in the SQA examinations.
