Dear Parent/Guardian

Best wishes to all our pupils, staff and parents for 2012. It is sure to be another busy and prosperous year for everyone at Dalziel. My thanks to everyone who supported our Christmas celebrations, the Christmas Dances and the Church Service.

1. PTA Christmas Raffle
   Thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas Raffle which has raised over £947.14. More information will be given in due course about how the money is spent to the benefit of our pupils.
   
   
2. Staffing
   We welcome a number of temporary staff joining the school this month.
   
   • Modern Languages Department - Laura carreno
   • Mathematics Department - Peter Ford
   • Chemistry Department - Gillian Abercrombie


3. SQA Examination Prelims
   The dates for the S5/6 Prelims are Monday 30 January to Wednesday 8 February.


4. GLOW
   User names and passwords for GLOW have now been issued to all S4-S6 pupils and I would ask parents/guardians to encourage pupils to use this source - particularly during exam preparations.
   Further information will be issued to pupils soon and anyone encountering problems should see Mr Fleming as soon as possible.


5. S3 Report Cards
   The S3 Report cards are due to be issued on Wednesday 1 February. Acknowledgement sheets should be returned by Wednesday 8 February.


6. S2 Parents' Evening
   The S2 Parents' Evening takes place on Tuesday 31 January and appointment sheets will be issued to pupils soon.


7. S1 Parents' Information Evening
   We are holding a special meeting on Tuesday 17 January at 7.00 pm.
   The purpose of the meeting is to discuss Curriculum for Excellence, the new examination system and how this will impact particularly on the current S1. We will be discussing the curriculum model that will be followed by the pupils in S1 as they progress through the school.


8. Easter School
   North Lanarkshire Council are running an Easter School for S5 and S6 pupils who would like an opportunity for revision and supported study.
   The Easter School will take place in Motherwell College from Monday 2 April to Thursday 5 April and is free of charge. Many pupils have attended in the past and have found it very useful. Application forms are available from Mrs Davidson, DHT.


9. School Uniform
   We are pleased that, with the help and support of parents, most pupils abide by the school's uniform rules. However, we are determined not to let standards slip and ask for your continued support in ensuring that pupils come to school properly dressed in the following uniform:-
   • Dalziel blazer and tie
   • White shirt/blouse
   • Grey/black skirt/tartan skirt
   • Grey/black trousers
   • Grey/black cardigan/pullover
   • Dress shoes
