Art / Design & Creative Technology

Susheila

The creativity of S2 Pupils at the Dalziel High School Art and Design and Creative Technology Department shone as they worked collaboratively with the Artist and Sculptress Susheila Jamieson to create a legacy piece of artwork to celebrate the International Children’s Games 2011.

The artwork is expected to be made from steel and will be sited in Strathclyde Park near the bridge over the Clyde that connects Motherwell and Hamilton.

The pupils demonstrated their dedication and commitment by working very hard throughout class time and their lunch with Susheila, creating action figures inspired by the International Children’s Games’ logo and various sports motions.

Following this, they began laying the cut-out action figures onto black paper to create an exciting range of panels. Each panel created was unique in its interpretation of the brief set by Susheila and pupils created an impressive range of ideas for the artwork.

Susheila then took the panels away to further develop them in preparation for the final stages of the project. Once the designs are finalised by the end of January, they will be sent to fabricators to be water jet cut from the metal. The Dalziel High pupils look forward to seeing the finished artwork, with the expected completion time at the end of March 2012.
