S4 Biolab Visit

Biolab Visit 2012

The Biolab at Jordanhill Campus allows students the unique opportunity for hands-on experience of learning new lab skills and discovering applications of biotechnological processes in health and industry.

40 Higher and Higher Human Biology pupils participated in two practical sessions which the BIOLAB offers:

DNA Profiling:
Pupils will play the part of forensic scientists helping to solve a crime by matching DNA from each of three suspects against DNA found at the site of the crime.

Raspberry ruin:
This session provides an experience of using a diagnostic technique (ELISA) using monoclonal antibodies to detect a fungus in raspberries. This technique also has medical applications including to test for HIV and in pregnancy tests.
