"Office 365 ProPlus" is a full version of Microsoft Office and includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook and more for all pupils for free.
Office 365 ProPlus is a user-based service and allows each pupil to install on up to five PCs or Macs. It also activates editing capability in the Microsoft Office mobile applications on iPad, iPod touch, iPhone and Android devices. Pupils can install on home or personally-owned devices.
This will make it easy for every pupil to access the latest version of Office on up to five devices providing both consistency when learning at home and reinforcing 21st century skills through the use of ICT. The combination of Glow Office 365 and ProPlus will provide pupils with another powerful set of learning tools that they can use to learn anytime, anywhere.
As North Lanarkshire Council has school staff subscription licensing for Microsoft Office Professional Plus, this entitles North Lanarkshire pupils to this "Student Advantage".
Pupils will get access to this as part of a program which will be rolled out by the school. This will enable them to create work at home using the full Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus suite for free.
This means that North Lanarkshire pupils' Glow account will grant them access to the Office software download and also to activate the editing capabilities on the iPad versions of the Microsoft Office apps. All with total integration to their Glow "OneDrive for Business" unlimited cloud storage.
Office 365 ProPlus can only be downloaded from within the Office 365 component of Glow and therefore your pupils will need to know their Glow account credentials in order to access it. Copies of Office installed via this service must have access to the Internet at least once every 30 days.
The programs have the same features and functionality as other versions of Office, e.g. Microsoft Word in Office 365 ProPlus works the same way it does in Office Professional Plus 2013.
When you deploy Office 365 ProPlus, it's installed on the user's local computer. Office 365 ProPlus is not a web-based version of Office unlike the online web app versions that you get in Office 365. Instead it runs locally on the user's computer so that users don't need to be connected to the Internet all the time to use it. If pupils store their documents in Glow (OneDrive for Business) they can also use the Office 365 web apps online to edit their documents from anywhere and on any compatible device.
Use on shared iPads in school will require users to log out of the Office apps when passing on to the next user.
The license to use this service will be rescinded when a pupil's Glow account is disabled or deleted.
Technical support for this service on personal devices is available online from http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/support/ and not from North Lanarkshire Council or the School.
Pupils who may already have a personal Office 365 subscription from home need not avail of this service as it will provide no further advantage.
