Dear Parent / Carer,
As we approach the end of term I can provide some updated information as follows:-
- SQA Update
Certificates will be sent to pupils on the 10th August.
Any S4-S6 pupils who have moved house since August 2020 should make sure the school is aware of their new address.
All pupils are encouraged to sign up to www.mysqa.org.uk so they will receive their results by text or email on the day.
Many of our pupils are still involved in assessments. These are really important as they inform and support the provisional grade that will be sent to SQA. We appreciate the parental support in getting our pupils ready for assessments. A final tracking report will be sent home in due course.
- Customer Service Excellence
Once again, the school embarked upon the Customer Service Excellence Award and we were delighted to obtain the award for another year. The audit took place on Wednesday 17th February and the assessor met with staff and pupil forums remotely, as well as the Senior Management to audit the learning and teaching taking place across the school community.
This year the school achieved 32 Compliance Plus categories (‘behaviours or practices which exceed the requirements of the standard and are viewed as exceptional or as exemplar to others’)This is a huge achievement and, along with 50 areas of Good Practice, these are the best results to date for Customer Service Excellence since the school first obtained the award back in 1999.
The assessor highlighted the significant work committed to areas such as Partnerships, Monitoring and Tracking and Learning and Teaching, as well as the success of Digital Learning and the commitment to supporting pupils within Pastoral Support, the two focus areas for this year.
A very sincere thanks to all staff, pupils and parents who were involved in the inspection, and a huge congratulations to the entire Dalziel High school community.
- Transition Programme
Our transition programme is well underway. We have contacted all primary schools involved and received information regarding our new pupils. Enhanced transition has started due to information we have received from primary colleagues.
Mr Birch & Mrs Di Mambro will hold a Virtual Parents’ Information Evening on Monday 7th June at 4.30pm. Parents/carers can join this through their child’s Transition Team page.
Pupils have also been invited to attend a visit at Dalziel during the following times:
Wednesday 16th June
- AM: Ladywell Primary 9.15am - 11.45am
- PM: Glencairn Primary 12.15pm - 2.45pm
- AM: Knowetop Primary – 9.15am - 11.45am
- PM: Various Primaries – 12.15pm - 2.45pm
A letter has been sent home to all p7 pupils with more information regarding the visit.
Unfortunately we are once again unable to have our Annual Prizegiving in St Mary’s in June. However we hope to celebrate the success of this year’s pupils at a Prize Giving Ceremony in St Mary’s Parish Church on Thursday 2nd September (restrictions permitting). We will share more information with all involved as soon as possible.
We have several members of staff who will be retiring this summer.
We say goodbye to Linda Francis and Elaine Harris, both of the HID department and Kareen Lawrie, formerly PT of the English department for 14 years. All of these members of staff have supported pupils here at Dalziel for many years and they will be greatly missed. We wish all of the above a long and happy retirement. Congratulations go to Dr Scott who will be taking up a new post as DHT at Eastbank Academy. We wish her well and appreciate all the great work she has done here at Dalziel.
Can I also let you know that I will be retiring as Head Teacher this summer and take this opportunity to thank pupils, staff and parents for all your support. The Head Teacher post has been advertised and a new Head Teacher should be appointed in the next few weeks.
- School App
We have made the decision to no longer communicate via the School App. We will continue to communicate with parents through Twitter and the school website. Please follow us on Twitter @dalzielhigh if you do not already do so.
