On Wednesday 24th May, the S1/2 rugby squad headed for East Kilbride RFC to take part in the final of the NLC S1/2 Plate competition.
The Plate final place came as a result of a win over Biggar in the semi-final.
St Maurices were the other finalists with ex-Dalziel pupil and current Dalziel RFC player Graham Calder in charge. The game opened with a brace of tries from Craig Connacher and Ross Mitchell but the St Maurices' boys then took a grip on proceedings and stemmed the flow, managing a score themselves to take the score at half time to 7-3.
With some well-chosen words from team coach Mr Barrie, the Dalziel boys took a firm grip on proceedings in the second half and eventually ran out comfortable winners by 37-3. Tries were scored by Connacher (4), Ross Mitchell (2), Josh Clark and Chris Graham. Scott Moonie (6) and Alan Bowles added conversions.
We would like to thank Mr Barrie, home referee Mr Moonie, all of the parents and the boys for putting in all the effort throughout the season and making our rugby happen. Craig Connacher.
