August 2020 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Carer,
Our pupils have responded well to the new circumstances in our school. They continue to use the sanitiser stations as they enter school and they are doing their best to follow new school rules.

As of Monday 31 August all pupils and staff will be required to wear a face mask in corridors and communal areas of the school. We would ask for parental support in ensuring that our pupils remember to bring a face mask to school each day. As this is mandatory, guidelines from the Scottish Government are that anyone seeking exemption must provide appropriate evidence as to why they cannot wear a mask, for example, a card from the asthma nurse. If your child can bring their exemption letter on Monday this will allow us to keep a register of pupils unable to wear masks.

If your son or daughter shows any symptoms of Covid-19 (high temperature, persistent cough or change to sense of taste/smell) then it is crucial that you keep them home from school and arrange a test as soon as possible.

A reminder that, at the moment, we are minimising visitors to our school and this is by appointment only.

  1. Road Safety
We are concerned about the conduct of some of our pupils regarding road safety. We have had complaints from members of the public about our pupils walking out on to the road without looking.

We will be reminding pupils about road safety next week and we would ask parents to help get this important message over especially to our younger pupils.

We would also ask that drivers are particularly careful around the school and do not park on the yellow lines on Crawford Street.

  2. School Trip Refund
Please find information below regarding refunds for each of the trips cancelled due to Covid-19.

Money paid will be issued to the pupils by cheque for the following trips.

Pupils will be asked to sign a receipt when receiving the cheque.

For audit purposes we ask that parents sign and return an acknowledgement slip once they receive the cheque.

  3. Snowsports Trip, Pila, Italy
A full refund for the deposit was paid by cheque to each pupil last week.

  4. Lake Garda Trip, Italy
We are currently waiting on an outcome from NLC’s insurance company regarding the deposits paid in order to be able to refund the full amount of the trip. This process is ongoing and we will keep parents updated.

  5. Costa Brava Trip, Spain
The refund for pupils who were due to travel has been paid by cheque to each pupil this week.

  6. London Trip
At the moment we are still waiting on a refund for part of the trip. Once we have this, the refund for pupils who were due to travel will be issued.

  7. Dalziel Day Out - Blackpool
The money for this has been issued to pupils in cash. All pupils signed on collection of the money.

  8. School Calendar
Our school calendar is being rewritten due to our current circumstances. We will share more information on this soon.

  9. SQA Exam Results
In line with the Scottish Government’s announcement on 11 August, exam results that had been downgraded by SQA have now reverted to teacher estimates. This means that a significant number of our pupils will have their SQA Examination certificates re-issued to reflect the higher grades estimated by their teachers.

Pupils affected by this decision should receive updated certificates on 8 September.

Yours faithfully
