November 2020 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Carer,
My thanks to all parents/carers for your continued support. As we are within Tier 3 of the Scottish Government system it is now required that S4, S5 and S6 pupils wear masks in class. This will also apply to teachers taking an S4 or S5/6 class. Please remind your son/daughter to bring a mask to school each day.

It remains crucial that pupils showing any symptoms, should stay off school and get a Covid test.

  1. Attendance/Registration
Attendance at school by children and young people is essential in order that they receive the education to which they are entitled. Absence from school, whatever the cause, disrupts learning and will impact negatively on the life chances of our children and young people and therefore our community.

The school operates period by period registration using SEEMIS which is our education management software system. In supporting our endeavours, we ask that if you know your child is going to be absent from school, you make contact with the office before the start of the school day, explaining the reason for the absence. If you know roughly how long your child is going to be absent, please let us know this.

  2. Remembrance Service - 11 November 2020
Due to the need for social distancing, we will be unable to have our annual Remembrance Service. However, we are planning an Act of Remembrance for staff and pupils on Armistice Day.

  3. S4 Progress Assessment 1
Due to SQA National 5 exams being cancelled, National 5 courses will now be assessed using an alternative certification approach. This will be based on teacher judgement supported by assessment resources and quality assurance. S4 classes are working towards a diet of Progress Assessments which are due to begin on 23 November. More details to follow from Mrs Chalmers. Pupils will sit Progress Assessment 2 later on in the term.

  4. Inter-House Public Speaking Competition
The school’s annual Public Speaking Competition will take place in school on Friday 27 November periods 5 and 6. The competition will be judged, but unfortunately, there won’t be an audience.

  5. Inter-House Tennis Competition
Well done to all who took part in the recent Inter-house Tennis Competition on 21 October. Congratulations go to the male Singles Champions, Lewis Wardrope and Logan Morrow and the female Singles Champions – Lucy Carr and Mia Smith.

The overall House winners were Greig House.

  6. Children in Need
In order to support Children In Need as a school, we plan to raise funds through a dress down day on Friday 13 November. Each pupil/member of staff will be asked to make a voluntary donation of £1, or an amount of their choice, as they enter the school. Many thanks for your support with this.

  7. School Photographs
If your child has had their Photograph taken and you wish to buy them, the last day for payment is Thursday 5 November 2020.

If your child has missed having their photograph taken, there will be an opportunity to have them taken on Thursday 5 November from 9am.

After this date it will NOT be possible to buy them, only Photographs that are paid for in advance are sent for printing.

The cost is £8 for three 7" x 5" Photographs.
