December 2021 Newsletter

Dear Parent / Carer,

  1. Inter-House Public Speaking Competition
The School’s Annual Inter-House Public Speaking Competition took place in the Assembly Hall on Tuesday 9 November. It was a great afternoon with Jaiden Thomson winning the individual prize and Barclay House winning the House Shield. The event was recorded and can be viewed by clicking on the link on our school website.

  2. Children in Need
As always, the contribution to charity has been inspiring. We raised £914.66 for Children in Need - a fantastic effort from everyone who took part.

  3. S5/6 Prelim Exams
S5/6 pupils have received their Prelim examination timetable and a letter outlining arrangements. The exams take place between Monday 13 December and Friday 21 January.

  4. Staffing
We are delighted to share with you our most recent permanent appointments. In the Modern Languages Department, Noémie Jacquinet, who is currently on supply with us, has secured a permanent post and Nina Mason will also join the department in January 2022.

  5. Celebration of Christmas
The Music Department is preparing a digital musical celebration of Christmas to be shared with pupils, staff, and parents. Further information will be issued on the school’s social media sites nearer the time.

The Christmas Service will take place in St Mary’s on Tuesday 21 December and the service will be live streamed in school for those not attending the Church. A recording of the service will be available for viewing and details will be posted on the school website.

  6. Christmas Jumper Day
As you may be aware, Friday 10 December is National Christmas Jumper Day. At the request of the Pupil Council, we encourage pupils to wear Christmas Jumpers on this day, along with their school uniforms. We would like to stress that this is not compulsory, but a pupil’s own choice. We will also have collection buckets at the doors in the morning to support St Andrew’s Hospice, however, once again, this is a voluntary donation and not compulsory.

  7. S3 Cimema Trip
Mr Townsley is co-ordinating an S3 Cinema Trip to the Vue Cinema in Hamilton on Friday 17 December 2021. For a permission form and place on the trip your son/daughter should speak to their English Teacher. The permission slip and payment of £10 should be made by Thursday 9 December 2021.

  8. Future Friday - Block 3
We have run a very successful 2nd block of Future Friday with over 100 young people attending all the opportunities we have on offer. Block 3 of Future Friday will run from Friday 10 December until Friday 4 February 2022. Pupils can sign up for a wide range of clubs, opportunities and activities on the link that will be posted on their Health and Wellbeing Teams page. We have many activities in the pipeline, however, please see the table below for the confirmed activities we have so far for Block 3.
