May 2022 Newsletter

Dear Parent / Carer,
It has been a busy start back following the Spring Holiday with the SQA Exam Diet commencing. We have been delighted to receive very positive feedback from the Invigilators for the SQA Exams who have praised our pupils’ approach to this very important period alongside their conduct, attitude, and organisation.

We would like to highlight to you the increased prevalence of vaping amongst young people across the country and the West of Scotland alongside the associated health risks. During PSE lessons Pupil Support staff are highlighting the dangers of vaping and concerns regarding vapes being illegally sold to young people within the community. When we resume weekly assemblies, we will also be reiterating to pupils that there will be very serious consequences, including suspension for anyone caught vaping within the school building. Where there are concerns a pupil is vaping within the school grounds or community, parents will be alerted.

Regular readers of the Newsletter will know that I share information on a range of aspects of school life and a variety of news and updates which I hope are of interest. Working together with parents - as key supporters of the school – is very important to me. We would greatly appreciate if you could please complete a short survey by clicking the link below:

    Parental Survey 2022

We recently welcomed our new S1 pupils during the P7 Games Evening. We look forward to meeting our P7 parents on Tuesday 31 May in the school from 4.30 pm onwards. The two-day visit will take place on Monday 13 June and Tuesday 14 June.

I am delighted to share with you that our Choral Shield will take place, once again, in the Civic Concert Hall in Motherwell and tickets will be on sale in June priced as follows:

    Wednesday 22 June - £10.00 & Thursday 23 June - £10.00

Order forms will be handed out to pupils after the SQA examinations.

Social Subjects will be running a trip to London in June 2023. The trip will be open to S3 and S4. Pupils will travel by train to London Euston. The trip will include a visit to a West End show, visits to the Imperial War & Natural History Museums, the London Eye, Tower of London, and a River Cruise. It will be 3 nights/4 days and cost £425.00 per pupil.

It is three years since we were last able to hold our Annual Sports Day and we are delighted to announce that this event, which has taken place for over 50 years, will once again be held at Dalziel Park. Over 250 pupils have participated in the heats and the finals will take place Periods 1 – 4 on Monday 6 June. Pupils not taking part will be transported to Dalziel Park to support their House. To help with the cost of buses, pupils will be asked for a £1 donation on the day. If possible, pupils should come to school wearing their House Colours (Barclay – Blue, Colville – Red or Greig – Yellow).

From August 2022, please be reminded that we are implementing our usual school uniform requirements following removal of Covid-related adjustments that were in place from the beginning of this session.
