December 2022 Newsletter
Dear Parent / Carer,
- SENIOR PHASE PRELIM EXAMS
S4 pupils have received their Prelim examination timetable and a letter outlining arrangements. The exams take place between Monday 5 December and Friday 16 December. S5/6 pupils have received their Prelim examination timetable and a letter outlining arrangements. The exams take place between Thursday 12 January and Friday 27 January. It is important that they commit time to study now to ensure they are ready and achieve their potential. - INTERHOUSE PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION
The School’s Annual Inter-House Public Speaking Competition will take place in the Assembly Hall on Thursday 1 December attended by participants, S1 pupils and House Officials this year. - CHILDREN IN NEED
As always, the contribution to charity has been inspiring. We raised £833.18 for Children in Need a fantastic effort from everyone who took part. - CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS
The Christmas service will take place in St Mary’s on Wednesday 21 December and the service will be live streamed in school for those not attending the Church. A recording of the service will be available for viewing and details will be posted on the school website. - CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY
As you may be aware, Thursday 8 December is National Christmas Jumper Day. At the request of the Pupil Council, we encourage pupils to wear Christmas Jumpers on this day, along with their school uniforms. We would like to stress that this is not compulsory, but a pupil’s own choice. We will also have collection buckets at the doors in the morning to support Cash for Kids, however, once again, this is a voluntary donation and not compulsory. - SCHOIOL UNIFORM
We are always happy to receive donations of blazers, ties etc that are no longer needed – especially for girls. Any items of uniform no longer needed can be handed in to the School Office. - PARENT COUNCIL MEMBERS
Thank you to those parents who put themselves forward and to those of you who took the time to vote. The following parents will join the Parent Council this month: Derek Sharkey, Allison Lynch and Scott Sommers. - CATRINA ALLAN - SCHOOL LIBRARIAN
Catrina Allan, our School Librarian is retiring this month, Catrina has served the school for 17 years and will be sorely missed.
She has been a huge part of school life, not only in encouraging reading, paramount in beginning our journey towards the Reading Schools award, she also contributed to many Health Fayres over the years. We wish Mrs Allan all the very best in her retirement. - VAPING
We would like to highlight to you the increased prevalence of vaping amongst young people across the country and the West of Scotland alongside the associated health risks. During PSE lessons Pupil Support staff are highlighting the dangers of vaping and concerns regarding vapes being illegally sold to young people within the community. At assemblies we will also be reiterating to pupils that there will be very serious consequences, including suspension for anyone caught vaping within the school building. Where there are concerns a pupil is vaping within the school grounds or community, parents will be alerted. Parental support in this matter is greatly appreciated. - DATES FOR YOUR DIARY:-
