School Captain
Hi, I’m Max, and I am elated and beyond excited to have been appointed to the prestigious role of Dalziel School Captain for the 2026/27 session. I would like to extend an enormous thank you to all of my peers and teachers who voted for me and placed their trust in me to fulfil this honour.

A huge congratulations to the Vice Captain, and one of my best friends, Amy Russell. Amy is an extremely hardworking, organised and intelligent pupil who I cannot wait to continue working alongside. From the ‘Dutchy’ to Mr Buchan’s Chemistry class, Amy has been with me every step of the way throughout high school, and there is no one else I could be luckier to have by my side in this role.

I would also like to say a massive well done to all the House Officials elected this year! I am certain we will make a great team, especially since they are led by such amazing captains.

Dalziel High School is a place that has given me so much over the years. It has challenged me, supported me, introduced me to some of my closest friends and given me countless opportunities to grow both academically and personally. Being appointed School Captain is therefore not only an honour, but also an opportunity to give something back to the school community.

As I enter my final year at Dalziel, I am reminded of just how quickly these years have passed. Soon, we will leave these corridors, classrooms and familiar faces behind, and begin the next chapter of our lives. I still remember walking through the doors of Dalziel as an S1 pupil, probably unaware of just how much this school would come to mean to me. Six years later, it is quite surreal to think that I will soon just be a name on a board in the Assembly Hall. From first-day nerves to exams, school trips, friendships, achievements and everything in between, Dalziel has, and always will be, a big part of my life.

We cannot make time stand still, but we can make the moments it gives us worth remembering. I want to make the most of this final year, not only for myself, but for every pupil who calls themselves a Dalzielian. Perhaps the true measure of our time here is not what we take with us when we leave, but what we leave behind for those who come after us.

My name is Amy Russell, and I am thrilled to be able to say that I am your school vice-captain for the 2026/27 session. It is such a wonderful privilege to have been awarded the role, and I want to say a great, big thank you to everyone who voted for me, I promise I won’t let any of you down! First of all, I want to congratulate our school captain, Max McCafferty, on his appointment. Max is one of my best friends. He is the most talented, trustworthy and exceptionally intelligent individual I have had the honour of getting to know. We’ve been through thick and thin with each other (the thick being higher chemistry and ordering food from the van by the way) and there is no one else I could possibly want to get through this year with. We will certainly make it one to remember.

Another huge congratulations to this year's house captains: Emily Dickson, Ellie Maxwell, and Jennifer Ward. We could not have voted in three better captains for our final year. I have such high respect for these three and I know they will make Dalziel proud alongside their excellent teams of officials!

Dalziel has been nothing but kind to me over these past six years, and I am so fortunate to have been able to take part in so many opportunities. From wearing a platinum blonde wig and donkey ears in the school shows, to being an ambassador for younger years, I have been fully immersed in all which this school has to offer. I am proud to call myself a Dalzielian because of this and I cannot wait to see what sixth year has in store.

It is sad to think that this will be my final year here, but I know that the memories I made will stay with me forever. So, I encourage every single pupil to sign up for every opportunity that is handed to them and cherish every moment of them. Always remember to aim for the highest.

I hope to make this an unforgettable year, and one that embodies our school values: Respect, Include, and Achieve.
