School Show 2016 - Wiz

‘The Wiz’, this years school show, is a retelling of Frank Baum’s classic novel ‘The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz’.

The premiere opened in Baltimore, Maryland in 1974 and was performed in the context of African American culture.

The 1975 Broadway production won 7 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and was an early example of Broadway’s mainstream acceptance of works with an all black cast. The plot is very similar to the original ‘Wizard Of Oz’ featuring the brainless scarecrow, the heartless tinman, the cowardly lion and, of course, the yellow brick road.

The characters of the witches and the wiz differ slightly.

The Dalziel High School cast will help audiences to ‘Ease On Down The Road’, encourage them to ‘Believe’, celebrate a ‘Brand New Day’ and finally think of ‘Home’.

This is a tale with lots of laughs, wonderful musical numbers and a truly happy ending. The production is the culmination of many months of rehearsal and commitment from a strong cast supported by dedicated staff and technical teams.

The school show production is on from Monday 10 October - Thursday 13 October.
