School Show 2024 - Shrek
Once upon a time, the cast of Dalziel High’s school show climbed upon its noble steed and quested Far, Far Away in its staging of “Shrek: The Musical.” With music by Jeanine Tesori and a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, the show invited audiences inside the pages of the fairest fairytale of them all across four sold-out performances.
The tale begins when Shrek, a mean and green ogre, awakens one morning to find his swamp crowded with fairytale creatures displaced on the order of the vain Lord Farquaad. After an unwelcoming welcome to the perfect town of Duloc, Shrek and his loveable sidekick Donkey are sent on a fearsome quest to rescue Princess Fiona from a fiery dragon’s clutches and deliver her to Faquuad. But as love blossoms, spells are woven and burps rift, Shrek and Fiona come to understand the course of true love never runs smoothly. With wooden boys, wicked witches and ugly ducklings, this is a hilarious and heartwarming tale.
With Queen Kelly of the Drama Department sitting on the throne as director of a team of staff and pupils, nearly 100 Dalzielians became Dulocians, taking responsibility for sound, stage management, lighting, props and costume, ensuring that audiences lived happily ever after in a night of song, dance and laughter. Like so much of life at Dalziel High School, the school show breathes fire into our school values and remind us of all we can accomplish when we aim to respect, include and achieve - as the show reminds us, "we've got magic; we've got power... who are they to say we're wrong? All the things that make us special make us strong!"
