February 2022 Newsletter
Dear Parent / Carer,
I hope that you and your family are well and that you find the information included in this update useful and interesting. There is a focus on Senior Phase assessment and support given the crucial importance of our senior pupils working hard towards success in their SQA courses at this time.
- SQA Update
The SQA have recently produced a message for parents and carers (link below) to provide a reminder of their approach to certification this session. They are clear that it remains the intention for exams to proceed in April-June this year and that it is expected that the Scottish Government will only cancel exams if public health advice in the Spring prevents gatherings from taking place. It is therefore crucial that your child continues to fully prepare for an exam diet as part of the awarding of grades this year. It is still crucial that your child continues to perform to the best of their ability in on-going class assessments and that they access the wide range of support available, including Assisted Study opportunities and online materials.
Further information from the SQA can be accessed here:blogs.sqa.org.ukMrs Chalmers has issued all candidates with the ‘Your National Qualifications 2021-2022’ booklet which provides useful information for candidates on this year’s exams. SQA exam results will be sent to candidates by post this year on Tuesday 9 August 2022. Please find attached an up-to-date Supported Study timetable and I would ask you to encourage your child to attend to best prepare them for the SQA exam diet.
- SQA Invigilation
I would like to invite any parents, grandparents or carers, who would like to be considered for SQA Invigilation duties, to contact the school on:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . - Health Fayre
Plans are underway for our annual Health Fayre. This year the theme of our Fayre is ‘Mind, Body and Planet’. The Health Fayre focuses on finding a healthy mind and body and pupils and staff will be encouraged to participate in numerous activities and sample healthy snacks. A number of lunchtime events for staff and pupils have also been arranged throughout the week. The Health Fayre takes place in the Assembly Hall from Tuesday 8 March to Thursday 10 March. - S2 Subject Choices
All S2 pupils are currently involved in the Personalisation and Choice process for choosing their S3 subjects and this has been discussed with them at an online Options Evening.
Throughout this process, pupils are encouraged to speak to subject teachers regarding further information on specific subjects. All Options forms should be completed online by Friday 4 March 2022. - S5/6 Subject Choices
All S4 and S5 pupils, who intend to return to school in August 2022, will be issued with a Personalisation and Choice form this month on Teams. Pupils can speak to their Pupil Support Tutor or Mr Bensalem for further advice and information. The Personalisation and Choice Booklet can be accessed on the school website. There will also be an online S5/6 Options Presentation Evening at 6.00 pm on Thursday 10 February.
Option forms should be completed on Teams by FRIDAY 25 FEBRUARY 2022. - Spring Concert
The Music Department Spring Concert takes place on Tuesday 29 March in St Mary’s Church. - Parking
Can I please remind all parents not to park on the yellow zig zag lines around the school. We are concerned that drivers parking in these areas mean young people leaving school can be crossing between parked cars.
The safety of our pupils must be top priority and we would ask all drivers not to park in these areas. - Dates for your diary:-
