October 2022 Newsletter

Dear Parent / Carer,

  1. SCHOOL UNIFORM
You will be aware that uniform is an important part of our school’s identity. It is also widely recognised as being a ‘leveller’ in terms of poverty proofing the school day. I am confident that our high standard of uniform has contributed to improving our excellent school ethos even further over the years. I am delighted to say that from the start of this session, the standard of our school uniform continues, for the most part, to be very good. All our young people are expected to wear the full school uniform, which consists of:
    • Dalziel High School blazer with school tie
    • black trousers, black skirt or tartan skirt
    • black pullover or black cardigan
    • black shoes

If you need help with supplying your child with any part of the school uniform, please contact the school for assistance. I am sure that if pupils, parents/carers and staff continue to work together, we can look forward to sustaining our excellent uniform standard.

  2. REMEBRANCE SERVICE
Our annual Remembrance Service will be held in St Mary’s Church on Friday 11 November. S1-S3 will attend the church for the service. Some S4-S6 pupils will be involved with the choir, readings etc. The service, which will be live-streamed, will start around 10.35 am and a two minute silence will be observed at 11.00 am.

  3. INTER-HOUSE PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION
The School’s Annual Inter-House Public Speaking Competition will take place in the Assembly Hall on Tuesday 29 November, attended, this year, by participants and House Officials.

  4. S1 SETTLING IN PRESENTATION
The S1 Settling In presentation will take place on Thursday 10 November at 7.00 pm. This will be an online meeting through the S1 Health and Wellbeing Teams page. The link will be available through the general channel.

  5. S4 PRELIM DIET
Finally, a reminder that our S4 pupils will sit their Prelim Exams from Monday 5 December – Friday 16 December. A Study Skills assembly was held earlier this week for all S4 pupils designed to support them with their preparation for the Prelim exams. Prelim timetables have been issued and I encourage all our young people to commit time to revision in preparation for their exams.

  6. S4 PARENTS' EVENING
S4 Parents' Evening will take place on 8 November in the school. Appointments will be made via the online booking system. It will run from 4.15 pm to 6.45 pm and all appointments will take place on the ground floor.

  7. FUTURE FRIDAYS
Block 2 runs from Friday 28 October up to and including Friday 16 December.

  8. MAIN CONTACT E-MAIL ADDRESSES
I would be very grateful if any parents/carers, who have still to do so, provide the school with a current e-mail address to ensure you receive all important correspondence and information.
