September 2022 Newsletter
Dear Parent / Carer,
We were delighted to welcome our young people back to school. They have settled well and S1 are already getting to grips with life in secondary school.
Once again, the young people in Dalziel High School have delivered an outstanding set of results in this year’s SQA National Awards. All members of the school community are absolutely delighted for all our young people in S4, S5 and S6, who worked so hard to achieve such success. Also, thanks to parents/carers who have supported and encouraged their every step of the way and, of course, to our staff who have the highest aspirations and expectations for all our young people and are celebrating the success with their students.

- RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL
This session we will be continuing our journey on becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School having already achieved our Bronze Award (Rights Committed) prior to Covid-19. We are working hard to ensure that all pupils are aware of their rights, can access their rights and enact their rights as stated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). To this end, we are starting a consultation process with all members of the Dalziel community to create a school charter which will communicate a shared vision and goals in the protection of the rights of the child.
Parents and guardians can assist us in this journey in the following ways:-
- Ask your child about what rights they have as stated by the UNCRC
- Encourage your child to take part in clubs and societies where their voice can be heard
- Discuss the importance of listening to others and protecting everyone’s rights
As always, the school welcomes parental involvement in every aspect of the school. If you would like to know more, or get involved in this project, please contact Mrs Tait –

Each year, schools are required to update their records of key information about our young people. We would appreciate it if you could update this information on the Parent Portal. To access this information and complete the data check form, you will need to have signed up to Parents Portal.
Please use the following link: http://bit.ly/ParentsPortalNLC - SCHOOL PROCEDURES
Can I please ask that parents take note of the following procedures:
Pupil Absence - Parents should inform the school first thing in the morning via Parent Portal or by phone when their child is going to be absent or has an appointment. If unsure how long your child is going to be absent, we ask that you contact the school each day in order to update attendance.
Pupils Unwell During the School Day - If a pupil becomes unwell during the school day, they should speak to their Pupil Support Teacher, who will contact parents/carers and arrange for the pupil to go home. For Health and Safety reasons, pupils are asked not to make their own arrangements with parents/carers without speaking to a Pupil Support Teacher first. - PARENTS' ASSOCOATION LOTTERY
Information on the new Parents' Association Lottery, supporting the school, can be found on the School website. - SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
Dates for the school photographs are as follows:-

- S5/6 POSITIVE DESTINATION EVENING

We would like to highlight to you the increased prevalence of vaping amongst young people across the country and the West of Scotland alongside the associated health risks. During PSE lessons Pupil Support staff are highlighting the dangers of vaping and concerns regarding vapes being illegally sold to young people within the community. At assemblies we will also be reiterating to pupils that there will be very serious consequences, including suspension for anyone caught vaping within the school building.
