Mental Health Ambassadors
Our sixteen S5 Mental Health Ambassadors and Mr Purvis were delighted to be invited to an NHS Lanarkshire festival “Celebrating Mental Health Recovery” at The Alona Hotel in Strathclyde Country Park.
Hosted by Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus, the six-hour event welcomed our young people to reflect on the power of music, dance, meditation, storytelling and exercise in promoting a message of “recovery.”
Pupils sang and danced in sessions with the Soundsational choir and meditated through Qigong. They also told yarns in storytelling workshops with a psychologist and enjoyed a walk-in nature. Most importantly, they listened to real-life stories from those who had experienced difficulties with their mental health and their powerful journey to recovery.
Our Mental Health Ambassadors have been speaking to year group assemblies this week, outlining their role and promoting the message that “it’s okay not to be okay.”
They will be in S2 classes over the next few months delivering lessons on issues such as Stress, Anxiety and Depression. They have begun to host a weekly drop-in for pupils from all year groups - it runs in SE2 every Monday lunchtime.
