Young Musician of the Year competition

Dalziel High School's first ever Young Musician of the Year competition took place on Wednesday 8th November at 7pm in the assembly hall. 30 pupils took part, ranging from those who have been playing their instrument for only a few months, to those who have been performing for years. The standard was exceptional, and every pupil who took part deserves credit for their commitment to practising their instrument and the confidence to perform to a packed audience.

The 3 judges had a tough decision but awarded the following:

• Junior Young Musician runner up: Mark Johnstone, saxophone
• Junior Young Musician winner: Hannah Chester, voice
• Senior Instrumentalist runner up: Fraser Neilson, piano
• Senior Instrumentalist winner: Samantha Sharkey, flute
• Senior Vocalist runner up: Kiera Bett
• Senior Vocalist winner: Ava Di Mambro
• Dalziel HS Young Musician of the Year 2023/24: Amelia Prucnal, bass guitar
